wishlist: Jane Eyre look-a-like

I've had my eye on this edition of Jane Eyre from Barnes & Noble's Leatherbound Classics Series (right). Not only is it a very pretty cover, but it's strikingly similar (in my mind) to the book used to speed along the narration in the 1943 Orson Welles film version of Jane Eyre (left). I almost wonder if the connection is intentional... the new edition features similar lettering and similar edging, and even picks up on the lace underlay in the background from the screen shots in its corner flourishes. Of course, classic covers tend to be similar in design, but intentional or not, I like the connection and plan to pick up a copy. I've got several other titles from the same series and think they'd go together swimmingly.

What do you think? Is there a connection, or am I imagining things? 

wishlist: moon globe

I'm a big fan of maps, and globes are pretty cool in their own right. Lately I've been pining for a black-ocean globe & have warned BW to snatch one up if he comes across it. This moon desk globe takes the cake, though. How unique and intriguing is this? I've never seen anything like it.

wishlist: camping

I was inspired by this lovely porcelain lantern lamp, which I first saw posted by Erin on Design for Mankind. Lanterns, for me, are quintessential camping. Wouldn't this be a clean, crisp way to bring a taste of summer adventure into your living room? My family's off camping in Florida for spring break this week, so I've got tents and hiking trails on the brain. Here's my round-up of some favorite camping-centric finds for the home.

wishlist: Jane's nightgown

If only I had $1,000 lying around...

One Kings Lane is selling a handful of items from the set of Jane Eyre, and Jane's nightgown from the fire scene is going for $999. Definitely out of my price range, but the idea is pretty cool. Mia Wasikowska said in an interview that the corsets she wore through most of the movie made her especially look forward to the scenes where she could wear her less-restrictive nightclothes. Actually, she wears them in more scenes than you'd expect from a Victorian-era story--maybe because Jane Eyre revolves around things that go bump in the night, so that's when lots of the action takes place. No, not that kind of action.

It looks like I'm a bit behind, as most items are sold out already, but somebody managed to get their paws on some neat items, including Jane's purse and the dramatic tapestry from Rochester's study. wishlist: fun flash drives

I think these flash drives from Fred Flare and The Curiosity Shoppe are so fun. They'd be an unexpected way to spice up the workspace--not to mention a clever way to disguise your digital files. I'm especially drawn to the skeleton key drive. I'd feel like I was unlocking secret documents through my computer every time I plugged it in.
